Caversham Wildlife Park - Perth day five

Today was a big day. We woke up early to help Pauline and Pieter out with the mulching. Then they took us to Caversham Wildlife park in White man’s park. It was great and it was really thoughtful of them to take us there. It was extremely hot.

We saw a sheep being sheered and then the guy showed us how to crack a whip. He asked members of the audience to try it out and this one man could not do it. It was really funny. We didn’t try because it was too hot! Plus we were at the back.

Then they called for kid volunteers, they gave them a bottle of milk each and said the first one to finish it wins, then they let out baby goats! It was cuttee.

We saw albino peacocks, baby kangaroos and quokkas:

We went into a big barn where you could touch some of the animals.

I got to touch a possum, they’re pretty ugly. Yet they are no where near as ugly as the wombats.

You could sit and have your photo with the wombat and the zoo guy, but the queue was this long. Plus they’re vile.

Then was my favourite part: albino kangaroos! They are so soft. They’re loads better than grey kangaroos but I think the red kangaroos are still my favourite. Partly because they look like foxes and partly because they don’t have those weird red eyes. Creepy.

We saw koalas up close again, I’ll never get tired of that! They’re not native to Western Australia because they don’t have their favourite trees here.

We really enjoyed the park but there were a lot of tourists there. I don’t really feel like a tourist anymore, we’ve been here so long and seen more of Australia than a lot of ozzies! Loads haven’t seen a kangaroo/koala in the wild either and we’ve seen both :D they should just give us citizenship really.

It was so hot that we got straight into the pool when we got back. They have a really marvellous pool.

We had a very enjoyable evening. Their neighbours had gone fishing in the morning for abalone, you’re only allowed to catch a certain amount of a certain kind so they cost about $200 a kilo, but they cooked them up and let us try them! It was great. They look like snails but the taste and texture is more like scallops/ calamari. Yummy and so generous of them!

Different neighbours (Sue and Geneve) came round for dinner, as did Jeremy (Pippa’s boyfriend). It was really nice company and the food was great: roast lamb and cheescake for desert.

It was an incredible day.
