Crocodile for Valentine's Day

Today we celebrated Valentine's Day, well not really but we did go out for lunch. We would have gone earlier in the week but Tukka only does lunch on Sat and Sun, so we went today and dubbed it Valentine's Lunch.

I really wanted to try crocodile so I typed crocodile and Brisbane into google, and apart from a few crazy stories about crocodiles it came up with the restaurant Tukka. It was very hot (35 degrees) and we walked from the train station to get there, so we arrived in a very sweaty state - but early as is our custom.

We were seated by the window and received a complimentary starter of crocodile something with raspberry sauce and watercress.

We were expecting it to taste like chicken with the texture of fish, because that's what everyone had said it was like, but we were surprised. It had more of a chewy (but in a good way) texture that reminded me of beef. It was pretty salty which we loved.

Then for my main I had a native platter, which was crocodile, emu, kangaroo and native berries. The crocodile here tasted different, it almost had no taste so it's hard to describe. The emu was very good and basically like duck. The kangaroo wasn't as good as the kangaroo that I had in Adelaide, but was still pretty good! The berries were interesting and had a potpourri flavour.

Tanbay had pancakes, here are his thoughts 'they were really good pancakes, they weren't sweet but the ice cream and strawberry jam were so it was nice. It was quite big'.

We went to a really cute pop up market afterwards but it was too hot to look at anything so we went to the Queensland Cultural Centre, Art Gallery and Museum

We went to the Museum first which was really great and loads better than the one in Adelaide. First we saw an amazing display of bugs and butterflies from Queensland which were really artistically displayed:

The brown moth was disgusting and as big as my face.

Next we saw a crocodile skull and thought it was only fair that it got to eat us as we had eaten it's relatives earlier

There were two hair balls donated by Steve Irwin which were found in the belly of a croc. One was just a generally hair ball but the other one had turned into a hard round stone!

This is the great barrier reef:

They had a great collection of skulls in height order which I liked.

The best bit about the museum was that there were actually real life exhibits! We saw giant cockroaches (puke). There was this cute python too:

You could enter a name in the box to hopefully get the chance to name him. I put in the best name I know (Tanbay). Tanbay was not amused and said ' I don't want the snake to have my name'.

The art museum was a bit boring in comparison so we didn't stay there long

After all this we were both so tired and hot we made our way back. We took the train and then the bus and then walked for twenty minutes. The twenty minutes were up hill and hard but also hilarious. I was talking to Tanbay about going to Mexico (the day before we watched Geordie Shore where they were in Cancun) he said 'oh no we can't go there that's where the Texas Chainsaw Masacre was' I laughed for ten minutes and said what and he said 'yea isn't Texas the capital of Mexico'. I love him.
